Tasting Notes

Fynbos Chardonnay

The Fynbos Vineyard has well drained soils that are rich in clay with north facing slopes that result in a rich, gorgeous, fleshy, generous wine. Nuanced and multi-layered – this vineyard produces wines with more depth and weight. The wine is perfumed and mineral with notes of soft white pear, stone fruit and bright citrus. This is a sumptuous wine whose fruit profile has both depth and breadth, and great structure that allows for significant ageing potential.

Kloof Chardonnay

The wine from the Kloof Vineyard is totally unique to South Africa. Pure fruit (soft white pear and bright limey citrus), razor sharp acidity and well-judged oak result in a wine that is precise, intricate yet layered, focussed and fine with significant ageing potential. It has beautiful oyster shell minerality, a slight saline note, a long finish and good weight on the back palate.

Kloof Pinot Noir

The Kloof Vineyard is dry land farmed and produces wine that is totally unique to South Africa. It has an inviting pretty, floral, perfumed nose with an abundance of pure red fruits that include cherries, raspberries and strawberries. The palate is soft, gentle and alluring, intricate yet layered, with fine powdery chalky tannins and lively acidity – perfectly balanced. The wine is exciting with good intensity and texture, and has significant ageing potential.

The Kroon Vineyard, with its ferricrete soil, is the highest vineyard on Iona. The wine offers an array of seductive black fruits that include berries, cherries and ripe summer plums. The palate is gentle yet generous with pure succulent fruit, bright acidity, charming velvety fine grained tannins resulting in a wine that is nuanced, textured and perfectly balanced with a long savoury finish.
